Grief & Loss

Grief is the normal and natural reaction to significant emotional loss of any kind. It is the conflicting feelings caused by the end of or change in a familiar pattern of behavior. Conflicting feelings are opposing emotional responses resulting from the same loss, like pain and relief. For example, when someone dies after suffering a long illness, those left behind may feel emotional pain knowing they can no longer see or touch the person. At the same time, they may feel a sense of relief knowing that the person’s suffering is over.

Grief is individual and unique. As every relationship is different, so are the thoughts and feelings each person has about the relationship that has been altered by any of the following:

Common Losses

    * Death
    * Divorce
    * Separation
    * Financial Changes
    * Health Issues
    * Moving

  ... and over 30 other losses

Overlooked Losses

    * Graduation
    * Career Changes
    * Marriage
    * Empty nest
    * Retirement
    * Pet Loss

Intangible Losses

    * Trust
    * Faith
    * Joy
    * Freedom
    * Security
    * Comfort
